The Foundation awarded 13 Promotion of Doctoral Studies (PODS) I Scholarships, 10 PODS II Scholarships, and 4 Florence P. Kendall Doctoral Scholarships in 2018.
2018 Grants
The Foundation awarded 8 grants in 2018. These awards funded research growth in geriatrics, health services research, acute care, orthopaedics, and pediatrics.
Marquette Challenge
Students raised $328,456 during the 2017-2018 Mercer-Marquette Challenge.

2018 Foundation Funded Researcher
"This award will allow us to investigate the acute changes in muscle that appear to contribute to longterm issues with physical function in transplant recipients."
Michael Tevald, PT, MPT, PhD, is an Associate Professor at Arcadia University. He received the 2018 Acute Care Research Grant supported by a donation from the Academy of Acute Care Physical Therapy.

2018 Foundation Funded Researcher
"The Foundation's support has facilitated progress towards my career goal of becoming an independent scientist and leader in clinical pain research."
Katie A. Butera, PT, DPT, is a PhD candidate at the University of Florida and the recipient of a 2018 Promotion of Doctoral Studies II Scholarship. Her dissertation study is titled, "Pain as a Nervous System Disease."

2018 Foundation Funded Researcher
"This Foundation grant is meaningful to me because it will advance knowledge to maximize outcomes for these vulnerable infants and will serve as preliminary data for an NIH RO1 Grant Proposal."
Barbara Sargent, PT, PCS, PhD, is a researcher at the University of Southern California. She studies early identification and intervention of infants with neuromotor disorders.

2018 Foundation Funded Researcher
"Financial support [from the Foundation] will allow me to focus more of my time on my coursework and research agenda. I am incredibly grateful to the Foundation for this opportunity."
Karen E. Thatcher, PT, DPT, is a two-time gold medalist in the Ice Hockey Women's World Championship and a silver olympic medalist. As a PhD student at The Ohio State University, she wants to help kids recover from Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction.
