Foundation Welcomes New Trustees to Board

The Foundation for Physical Therapy Research today announced the appointment of Jerry A. Smith, PT, ATC, LAT, MBA, and David L. Rouen III to the Foundation Board of Trustees. They will begin their terms immediately.

Jerry A. Smith, PT, ATC, LAT, MBA

Smith has been a member of APTA for over 47 years and served as president of APTA Indiana for four years. He also served as a PTPAC trustee for five years. Smith serves on the Workers Compensation Research Institute Committee for Indiana, an independent, member-supported, not-for-profit research organization. Smith is the Center Therapy Director for Concentra, an outpatient orthopedic occupational health center.

David L. Rouen III

Rouen is the chief operating officer for North Carolina-based Superior Medical Equipment, a physical therapy equipment distributor and Foundation Partner in Research. He actively engages his corporate network on behalf of the Foundation, creating new partnerships and collaborations. Rouen is active in the physical therapy community and attends APTA state chapter and national conferences. He also volunteers at the Good Shepherd Center in Wilmington, North Carolina.

“On behalf of the Trustees, I am pleased to welcome Jerry and David to the board,” said Foundation President Paul Rockar, PT, DPT, MS. “Jerry is a passionate individual who is an established physical therapist and will help the Foundation continue to grow. David will provide invaluable insights from a corporate perspective and will advocate on our behalf.”

The Foundation for Physical Therapy was established in 1979 as a national, independent nonprofit organization to fund physical therapy research. The Foundation is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization governed by a Board of Trustees.
