University of Delaware PhD Student Receives PODS I Scholarship to Study Strategic Learning in Locomotion Post Strokes

Margaret A. French, PT, DPT, research assistant and PhD student at the University of Delaware, is the recipient of a 2018 Promotion of Doctoral Studies (PODS) I Scholarship for her work entitled “Strategic Learning in Locomotion Post Stroke.” This scholarship is designated as the Mercer-Marquette Challenge Award, funded by the annual Marquette Challenge, a grassroots, student-led fundraising effort to advance the mission of the Foundation for Physical Therapy.

In her work, she examines how stroke survivors can use visual feedback to learn a new walking pattern and how different factors, such as cognition, may affect their ability to learn this new pattern.

French is also the recipient of a 2016 Florence Kendall Scholarship.

The Florence P. Kendall Doctoral Scholarship awards $5,000 annually to outstanding physical therapists as they begin their first year of graduate studies toward a postprofessional doctoral degree.
