FOUNDATION FOR PHYSICAL THERAPY RESEARCH TO MAKE ADDITIONAL INVESTMENT IN HEALTH SERVICES CENTER OF EXCELLENCE

Building on the largest ever FPTR grant, the FPTR Board of Trustees elected to double the original grant duration of the one-of-its-kind Center on Health Services Training and Research (CoHSTAR).

ALEXANDRIA, VA (February 13, 2020) – The Foundation for Physical Therapy Research (FPTR) Board of Trustees announced a major continued investment in the multi-million-dollar health services research initiative. The announcement coincides with this year’s American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) Combined Sections Meeting in Denver, Colorado, and builds on the commitment of the organizational and individual donors who made the original grant possible.

The Center on Health Services Training and Research (CoHSTAR) was originally established with a 5-year Foundation grant of $2.5 million in 2015. In 2019, FPTR extended funding for the program for years 6 and 7. Today, FPTR elected to extend the program for years 8, 9, and 10 – doubling the original scope of the grant. The additional investment will total $1.25 million.

“We can’t think of a better time to share this announcement,” said FPTR President Paul A. Rockar, Jr., PT, DPT, MS. “Generous gifts from APTA, APTA components, corporate, and individual donors made this promising initiative possible. More than 5 years ago, these champions recognized the urgency of this investment. Today, we celebrate the accomplishments of CoHSTAR together.”

Now in its fifth year, the multi-institutional program has yielded more than 90 peer-reviewed publications,14 pilot studies, and 15 fellowships. CoHSTAR-funded research and researchers will present abstracts of their work and host sessions during this year’s CSM Conference.

More than 150 donors made this grant possible.
