The University of Pittsburgh presents “Current Concepts in Rehabilitation for Disorders of the Hip Complex”

April 18 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
$250

The University of Pittsburgh is pleased to offer a comprehensive full-day course designed to advance clinical knowledge and patient care in rehabilitation for disorders of the hip complex. This educational event directly supports the mission of the Foundation for Physical Therapy Research.

This course is pre-approved for 7.5 (6 General and 1.5 Direct Access) continuing education units for physical therapists in Pennsylvania. University of Pittsburgh CEUs, as a pre-approved provider of continuing education by the Pennsylvania State Board of Physical Therapy, are often accepted by other physical therapy state boards without a pre-approval process. However, a small number of states require pre-approval directly from their state board of licensure. You should check with your State Board to determine if the hip course is approved for CEUS in your state prior to registering.

Course Description

Musculoskeletal hip disorders have received a growing level of interest from the fields of physical therapy. Technological advancement and improved understanding of the hip complex has demonstrated the need for thorough evaluation and clinical reasoning to determine a patient’s place in the spectrum of injury that often occurs in this region. Diagnosis and treatment of individuals with hip related pathology can be difficult secondary to the close interrelationship between the lumbopelvic complex, soft tissue structures, and hip joint. This course will integrate current evidence and concepts to offer techniques that will allow for a logical evaluation to assist with differential diagnosis of conditions affecting the hip and pelvic region. Evaluation techniques for the hip joint and surrounding soft tissue that will allow for a classification-based treatment program will also be discussed. Impairment-based examination will be paired with evaluation of movement quality. Current diagnostic imaging, surgical techniques, post-surgical rehabilitation, and return-to-activity & sport considerations will also be discussed.

Course Objectives

Participants will:

  • describe the relevant musculoskeletal anatomy in the region of the hip joint
  • describe and apply the suggested classification system to individuals with pain in the hip region
  • describe imaging studies and the diagnoses of the hip region that may be potentially recognized by these studies
  • apply treatment techniques based on classification of patients with hip region pain
  • describe select extra-articular conditions that may result in pain of the hip/groin region
  • discuss recent advances in hip joint surgery along with associated postoperative rehabilitation concepts
  • discuss the concerns for patients returning to activity & sport following hip region injuries
  • apply the discussed information to a case study format

Reserve your spot today by filling out the form below. You will receive handouts, additional communications, and a link for the course as the event date approaches.
