This interactive and interdisciplinary course is designed to advance the knowledge and skills required to recognize findings necessitating medical referral for patients in a variety of settings. The course will build on the clinician’s current clinical expertise through lecture, laboratory experiences, collaborative decision-making, and interdisciplinary case discussions. Medical conditions that mimic musculoskeletal dysfunction, and “must know” red flags across the lifespan will be highlighted. Evidence-based management will be addressed to guide the role of physical therapists as collaborative practitioners who are ideally positioned to identify manifestations warranting referral. A portion of the proceeds from this course will be donated to the Foundation for Physical Therapy Research as a part of the VCU-Marquette Challenge!
