Foundation-Funded Center on Health Services Training and Research (CoHSTAR) Investments Yields Additional Funding

The Foundation-funded Center on Health Services Training and Research (CoHSTAR) is building capacity for health services research in physical therapy and providing protected time for early career researchers to become independent investigators.

Grants Related to CoHSTAR Pilot Awards

  1. National Institude on Aging: Jason Falvey used preliminary data and skills learned data analysis of the CoHSTAR Pilot award to apply for this F31 training grant.
  2. NIH/NICHD: Amit Kumar is the PI on this project. The goals of this project are to explore hospital-related factors as one set of mechanisms behind rehabilitation latency into IRFs after stroke and the association between rehabilitation latency after stroke and functional outcomes (discharge to home, functional measures).
  3. NIH/NIA: The goal of this project is to quantify disparity health services during acute and health outcomes in Medicare beneficiaries with hip fractures. Kumar serves as the PI.
  4. National Center for Medical Rehabilitation Research/NIH: The goals of this project is to compare utilization of hospital-based rehabilitation services after lower extremity joint replacement and health outcomes between hospitals participating in BPCI versus other hospitals. Three outcomes: 1) discharge destinations 2) 90-day hospital readmission, 3) Home to home time.

Additionally, 11 grants have been awarded to CoHSTAR-funded fellows. Funding agencies include NIH, NIAMS, the Department of Veterans Affairs, and other high-profile funding agencies. These grants include the following:
