Foundation for Physical Therapy

2019 Summer Internship

Application Deadline: January 15, 2019

The Foundation for Physical Therapy is accepting applicants for a full-time, paid internship to work with a national nonprofit that funds physical therapy research. This internship is a temporary employment opportunity for students who are either enrolled in a physical therapist (PT) or physical therapist assistant (PTA) program or who have matriculated in a baccalaureate or postbac program and plan to attend a PT or PTA education program in the fall. Of students who are not yet enrolled in a PT or PTA program, preference will be given to those already accepted.

All applicants must be eligible to work in the U.S.

This selective opportunity will provide a student with the chance to do substantial work in a number of areas across the Foundation (fundraising, communications, and research). The Foundation’s office is located in the headquarters of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) in Alexandria, VA. The APTA represents more than 100,000 member PTs, PTAs, and students.  The intern will work 37.5 hours per week from May – August 2019 for a total of 10-12 weeks.

Criteria:  Applicants must have education, experience or interest in physical therapy, nonprofit management, communications or a demonstrated interest in Foundation affairs. Applicants must have strong verbal and written communication skills, excellent organizational skills, be able to work independently and have experience working with Microsoft Office programs. The ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced team environment is highly critical for this internship.

Responsibilities:  Work directly with various Foundation staff and one other summer intern on important projects in the following areas: Fundraising, the Scientific Program, Communications and upcoming events taking place at the APTA NEXT Conference in Chicago, IL.

Salary:  Current hourly rate for interns as designated by APTA’s Human Resources Department. Full time paid position from May – August 2019.

Application Process:  Applications for the internship will be accepted up to January 15, 2019. Applicants who are chosen will be phone screened by a Foundation representative and top candidates will move to a final round interview phase.
